Join us for a guided paddle through one of Northern Ontario’s most scenic stretches of water — from the calm shores of Pimisi Bay to the powerful and remote Talon Chutes on the historic Mattawa River.
We’ll begin in the sheltered waters of Pimisi Bay, perfect for getting comfortable in your canoe. As we enter Lake Talon, we’ll paddle along the rugged north shore, passing rocky cliffs, windswept pines, and likely a loon or two.
Your guide will share stories and insight into the natural and cultural history of the area as we make our way toward the narrowing mouth of the Mattawa River. From there, a short walk brings us to the base of Talon Chutes, a breathtaking waterfall and our destination.
We’ll relax, explore, and enjoy a scenic snack before paddling back through the same beautiful route — a rewarding journey in the heart of the wild.

As we approach Campion Rapids, you’ll feel the energy pick up. Along the way, we’ll pause to enjoy the landscape, spot wildlife, and connect with the wild rhythm of the river.
On this exclusive guided tour, we’ll take you through one of the most significant historic routes in North Bay!
Learn about the La Vase Portages’ role in the fur trade as a key route used by both Indigenous peoples and European explorers. Discover how this waterway, stretching over 11 kilometers, became essential for voyageurs traveling between the St. Lawrence River and the interior of North America.
PLEASE NOTE: This guided trip involves rocky and uneven terrain, long portages and wet feet! This is not a leisurely paddle but an adventure through the mud, over beaver dams, across varying landscapes and does require a certain level of fitness. We promise you will sleep good!
Your journey will take you across eight kilometers of pristine water and three kilometers of forested and paved pathways. The La Vase Portage route weaves through a variety of ecosystems, providing you with breathtaking views of tranquil lakes, flowing rivers, dense woodlands and urbanized environments
