ORCKA Basic Canoe Course

Prerequisites: None

Course Duration: 5 hours

This is an entry level course to get beginner paddlers comfortable in a canoe and being on the water.

Theory: Equipment selection, knowledge and care

Safe Canoeing Procedures

Safety: Retrieving a swamped canoe, Canoe over canoe rescues

Skills: Launching and removing a canoe, entering and exiting a canoe, paddling position and trimming, balancing, pivots, sideward displacement, stopping, landings, lifts and carrys. 

Prerequisites: ORCKA level 1

Course Duration: 4 hours

building upon the skills we learned in level 1

Skills: Trimming, changing positions on the water, inside/outside turns, inside/outside circles, inside/outside landings, reverse, lifts and carries

Theory: Government Regulations, Outdoor precautions, Equipment knowledge

Prerequisites: ORCKA level 2 

Course Duration: 4 hours

Building on the skills learned in level 1 and 2, this course dives deeper into skills and theory

Skills:

Safety: Exiting and reinterring a canoe on water, canoe over canoe rescue

Theory: Environmental Awareness, Windy weather precautions, Day trip packin

Prerequisites: ORCKA level 3

Course Duration: 12 hours

Skills: Launching and removing canoe, Entering and exiting, paddling position and trimming, balancing, changing positions, pivots, sideward displacement, inside/outside turns, inside/outside circles, inside/outside landings, stopping, reverse, lifts and carrie, Transporting a canoe on vehicles
